Dr. Abara is highly trained to treat disorders of the male and female urinary tract (bladder, ureter, kidney and urethra) and the male reproductive system. Urology is classified as a surgical subspecialty, but since a wide variety of clinical problems are encountered when treating urological conditions, knowledge of internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and other specialties is required.

Dr. Emmanuel Abara earned his medical degree in 1976 from the University of Ibadan. He continued his training perfoming a surgical residency from 1976 to 1982 at the University of Benin and at the University of Port Harcourt, where he served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Abara then performed a urological residency and was awarded a fellowship in pediatric urology, urodynamics, erectile dysfunction, ESWL, and urolithiasis at the University of Toronto from 1982 to 1989.

Dr. Abara is currently an active physician on staff at York Central Hospital and has consulting privileges at Kirkland Lake and District Hospital, Kirkland Lake, Ontario, and at Sensenbrener Hospital, Kapuskasing, Ontario. He is very active in his profession and in the local community, actively involved with many hospital committees and service organizations. Dr. Abara has set up and participated in community health related awareness programs in the area. He has continued to provide support and advice to various non-profit organizations throughout the community. In addition, Dr. Abara has published in professional medical journals and presented numerous papers to professional assemblies.

Dr. Abara is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons. He maintains membership in numerous professional associations throughout the world including the Canadian Medical Association, the American Urological Association, the International College of Surgeons, and the Canadian Urological Association.
